Thetis Lake Regional park has a choice of trails to take. The left side of the lake requires a little more energy than the right side, however both sides should be manageable for someone in reasonable condition. Some of the trails in the park are also horse riding trails so make sure you follow signs.
Thetis Lake is a great place to come during summer months if you are looking for a sandy beach. The beach gets quite busy during the day time with those looking for some fresh water to cool off in. The front of the park connects with the Galloping Goose trail, a long trail winding through Victoria.
History/Size
Thetis Lake park is 2060 acres of lake, forest and wetland. The park area was established as Canada’s first nature sanctuary in 1958 and then recognized as a regional park in 1993. Thetis lake has stocked trout and you will probably see fisherman if hiking during summer months.

To hike you start at the parking lot and you can either go left or right along the lake. The left side has slightly more incline and also has a forest that is comes right down to the lake in most spots. The rocks are steep right next to the lake and in one spot called suicide landing you can cliff jump about 50-60 ft off.
From downtown Victoria travel north on the Trans Canada Hwy and take the exit to Colwood. Continue to Six Mile road and watch for signs to the parking lot. The main parking lot has a fee during summer months.
