Tofino is the surf capital of Canada: It’s only natural the first full day kicks off with giving it a try. A 3hr group lesson with a certified instructor puts you right into the action of Tofino’s number one pastime. There’s nothing more satisfying than a day playing in the ocean, catching waves, standing up for the first time and struggling in and out of wetsuits. After all that work, you’ll get to take a break soaring high above the beaches you just surfed in a 30 minute, scenic floatplane ride. Afterwards, you can boards for the rest of the day, or head out on any of Tofino’s hikes. Of course, shopping and exploring the quaint town is also a great option.
Its time to stretch back out those surfing arms with another type of paddling – Kayaking! The waters surrounding Tofino make for a fantastic spot to master the basics and explore the endless islands and features the area has to offer. A 2.5hr kayaking tour is the perfect introduction to the area. Your knowledgeable guide will be able to help you improve your technique and teach you about the area and the plethora of marine animal that call the Clayoquot Sound home. Afterwards, it’s time to continue the wildlife spotting and lessons with a bear or whale-watching excursion. Take to the seas in either a covered vessel or zodiac and get first-hand views of these incredible creatures yourself.
If the Pacific Rim wasn’t unique enough, you’ll get the incredible opportunity to experience Hot Springs Cove – a slice of nature’s finest works. Cruise by boat to the location and revel in a quick, forest hugged walk along boardwalks. Soon enough you’ll arrive at the naturally heated, geothermic hot springs. Carved directly into the rocks, there are plenty of pools to pick from with stunning views and sets of falls to accompany them. 6 hours won’t feel like enough time!
It’s time to pack up and bid farewell to Tofino.
