A popular destination among locals, Mt. Becher also resides within the boundaries of Strathcona Park. With a gentle summit, you can watch cross country skiers ascend the summit from the old Wood Mountain ski area during the winter. During the summer, the hike is relatively short by mountain standards, and can be accomplished in 4-6 hours (Wood Mt Route), depending on skill level.
Route 23, is another option that can be accomplished in the same time frame. At the summit, wonderful views abound, especially towards the NW and SW. The trail is heavily forested so bring a map and be careful not to get lost. If you plan on taking the Wood Mt. Trail, follow the Boston Ridge trailhead markers located off Forbidden Plateau Rd. Don’t forget to look for the Comox Glacier on your hike up.
