Pipers Lagoon

(Nanaimo)

One of Nanaimo’s most popular places to hike, Pipers Lagoon has many scenic view points in the 8 hectare park. As you start the trail there is a long pebble beach on your right and a very large shallow lagoon to your left and doesn’t need much of a tidal change to completely empty it of water. Once you reach the rocky headland you will have some great views of Nanaimo and the surrounding islands. Shack island is possible to reach at low tide.  The small buildings though rustic in apprearance are actually summer cabins, not abandoned shacks, so please be respectful of private property. The cabins were used by fisherman when motor boats weren’t as common going back to the 1930’s.
